The Feeling Invent The World's Most Scenic Festival
In March 2010, Ivor Novello-winning popsters The Feeling will return to Meribel, scene of the band's earliest gigs, to host their very own event, Little World Festival.
For seven, fun-filled days in the magnificent French Alps, the band will curate more than 30 separate events, from small bar gigs, to an indoor dance party, to a huge (and completely free!) on-piste main show. Fans buying a wristband will be able to attend all of the week's events.
As well as several performances from The Feeling, fans will be treated to shows by acts including Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Fiction Plane, Ed Harcourt, Sinead and the Dawnbreakers, 10cc's Graham Goldman and Squeeze's Glen Tilbrook, with many more artists to be announced. One special night will even feature intimate collaborations between all of the artists.
'It just seemed like the perfect event for us to organise,' says The Feeling's Richard Jones, who came up with the idea alongside his bandmates Dan Gillespie Sells, Kevin Jeremiah, Ciaran Jeremiah and Paul Stewart. 'We love festivals, we love skiing and we have a proud history as a band in this very ski resort. Little World combines all of our passions. It's incredibly exciting to be able to go back to the place we started and put on our own little festival.'
Little World Festival was inspired by the band's last trip to Meribel, in 2008. On that visit, they played a free gig on the piste to 6,000 fans in what marked a triumphant return for a group of friends who, years earlier, had performed three sets a day in the resort's bars. The 2008 trip formed the basis of a live DVD, 'Come Home', featuring narration by friend-of-the-band Kiefer Sutherland.
'We organised that trip ourselves and it really opened our eyes to the possibilities,' says Richard. 'More bands should try doing things for themselves. This whole event is exactly the way we want it. We've really enjoyed pulling it together alongside recording the new album.'
'It's an amazing feeling to be able to take all our friends out there to play with us, alongside heroes like Graham Gouldman and Glen Tillbrook,' says Dan. 'I think for all of us, snowboarding during the day and seeing bands by night is our idea of a perfect holiday. Hopefully that's what Little World will be like for everyone who comes. We can't wait.'

By Plane
If you are flying there are three main airports you can fly into. They all take around 2 and a half hours to drive to Meribel.
Lyon Airport (BA, EasyJet or Swiss from London airports and most other UK airports
Geneva Airport (EasyJet, Swiss, BA)
Grenoble Airport (EasyJet and RyanAir)
The easiest and most stress free way to get from the airport to Meribel is by hire car.
By Train
Eurostar offers an international high-speed service from Kings Cross to Moutier in the French Alps. The journey time is around 7 hours and since Moutier is only a 15 minute drive from Meribel, there is no lengthy airport transfer.

Safety in the Resort
Being a high altitude mountain resort temperatures get very cold at night, even in March! Here are some basic safety pointers;
- Dress appropriately for the mountains when going out for the night.
- Do regular checks to make sure everyone in your party are present as you move around the resort, especially towards the end of your night and if the group have been drinking.
- Do not attempt to take short cut home to your accommodation. Take the route you know is safe.
- Drink responsibly
Medical Facilities
There are three medical centres in the resort. The largest is located within the Patinoire and run by Dr. Patrick Schamasch (+33 (0)4 79 08 60 41), and his associate Dr. Mabboux. The services provided include those of a physiotherapist, Christophe Lavoue, and a dentist, Marie-Claude Pomagalski. They also run an additional centre in Mottaret, near the centre commerciale. Dr. Thierry Vabre's practice is situated at altitude 1600. (+33 (0)4 79 08 65 40). The surgeries are well equipped for dealing with ski injuries, and are open from 9am. All have Xray and plastering facilities. More serious cases are referred to hospital in Albertville. Should the worst happen, the piste rescue services will transport patients to one of the surgeries. If you have a preference for a particular doctor you should let the pisteur know or you will be taken to a surgery at random.
Ski Insurance
All skiers should have ski insurance. The excess varies and can make a big difference should you have to make a claim. If you do need to make a claim call the Assistance Company mentioned in your policy documents and keep a note of the reference number they give you. If you are flying home, let your assistance company know if you have any plaster cast or if you cannot bend your knee. Airlines can refuse to carry you without additional documentation.
E111 is not an insurance policy. It entitles European citizens to reciprocal health care. In France this means you must pay for treatment and pharmacy items and then claim a proportion back from the French social security. Reimbursement is up to 65% and takes about 3 months. E111 will not cover piste rescue (up to £800 if helicopter needed). It also will not cover transportation costs back home should you be unable to travel as planned.
Carte Neige
Carte Neige is a basic insurance policy available from the tourist office in resort. Carré Neige gives similar cover which you can purchase with your ski pass. Both will avoid the need to pay for piste rescue, but medical and pharmacy bills will need to be settled direct and claimed back later. If you are a European citizen you may be asked to claim some reimbursement first on E111. Carte Neige and Carré Neige give limited cover for some of the transportation costs back home.
